A suicide bomber, on 25th September, blew himself up in Somalia at a military base in the west of the capital Mogadishu killing atleast 1 soldier and injuring 6 others. Al Shabaab, an affiliate of al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the bombing. They proclaimed to target the base because military recruitment was going on there.
The bomber disguised himself up as a regular soldier and managed to enter the military premises early on Sunday. Then he detonated the explosives attached to himself on the nail and blasted the area, Captain Adel Omar, a soldier at the military base, told sources. “We lost one soldier and several others were injured. The bomber blew up himself at a check point,” he said. A nurse at Madina Hospital in Mogadishu confirmed that they received one dead soldier and six others who were injured.
But, Al Shabaab’s spokesperson for military operations, Abdiasis Abu Musab, was quoted by the group’s associated radio station, Al Andalus, saying “A Mujahid suicide bomber killed 32 apostate soldiers and injured over 40 others inside a base in Mogadishu today.” Al Shabaab frequently carries out bombardments and gun attacks in Somalia and elsewhere. This extremist Islamic group wants to overthrow Somalia’s central government and establish its own rule according to their own strict interpretation of Islamic Sharia law.
