Argentina’s World Cup winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez landed in Kolkata on Monday to attends a promotional event at the Mohun Bagan club on Tuesday.
He arrived at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International airport in the afternoon amidst a warm reception by Bagan officials and hundreds of fans.
part of his South-Asia tour he also visited Dhaka and met Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina before coming to Kolkata.
The Golden Glove-winning keeper at Qatar 2022 will inaugurate a gate at Mohun Bagan’s Maidan premises named after Pele, Diego Maradona and Garfield Sobers, the Indian Super League (ISL) champions have earlier announced.
He is scheduled to speak about his life at an event followed by a programme to felicitate 10 Bengal-born and bred keepers, including former India captain Bhaskar Ganguly.
He will also witness an exhibition match between Mohun Bagan All Stars and Kolkata Police All Stars on Tuesday evening.
“I’m delighted to be here. I’m really excited,” Martinez said after touch-down.
Tickets were sold out within two hours of making it available for collection on Saturday.
