Three RSS activists were arrested on September 27, 2022, in charge of attacking a rationalist Dalit professor Sudhakar Sardar in a cultural fair in Mandir  Bazar, South 24 Parganas.

Although the accused were granted bail by the magistrate’s court in Diamond Harbour since the police did not charge them with  stringent IPC Sections as they could weigh the intensity of the incident. This provoked the local Dalit community who follow the same rationalist views as they are frightened of similar attacks on them, reported by a source. While three accussed are arrested, four are yet to be behind the bars. They had criminal trespass and and caused serious injuries intentionally. Although the police are commanded to arrest all the accused with sterner charges.

A Dalit organisation named Manusher Pashe has planned to take up a legal action against the police in charge. Moreover, Sardar got discharged from hospital despite all the injuries since his presence is mandatory for his ailing wife.
