On August 6 Tuesday, the Israeli media reported a large-scale drone attack into northern Israel carried out by the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah. Multiple drones were said to have been launched, with one halt and another crashing in Nahariya. Reports from local media indicated that at least 19 people were injured during this assault. In their initial investigations, the Israeli military stated that “an interceptor missed the target and hit the ground injuring several civilians” hence causing injuries. It was said to be under investigation though. According to Reuters, one drone targeted a bus stop along a major highway outside town.
Later on, Hezbollah confirmed that it had already launched a mass of combat drones targeting IDF Golani Brigade’s headquarters in Northern Israel as well as the 621st Eguz unit based at Shraga military base located in Northern Acre. This attack took place when both sides had already raised tensions following an Israeli strike which occurred on July 30th that killed Fawad Shekar who was among top commanders for Hezbollah. The day after Ismail Haniyeh who led Hamas was assassinated in Iran’s capital Tehran; there were no confirmations nor denials from the Jewish state concerning his murder. These two murders have sent shockwaves across entire West Asian region and raised fears of an all-out war between Israel and its ally Iran. The killing of Fawad Shekar still remains unresolved according to quotes obtained from Hezbollah’s spokesperson by Reuters who was asked about this attack afterwards.
The spokesperson remarked, “Up till now, we have not received any response for the murder of Commander Fuad Shukr.” Earlier, the grouping claimed that the conflicts resulted in the death of four its members during combat with Israel without providing additional detail. In relation to the Gaza conflict, Hezbollah and Israel Defense Force exchanged fire over a decade ago. On Tuesday, media outlets indicated that Israeli fighter jets crept into sonic barrier three times within half an hour while flying above Lebanese capital leading to panic in Beirut. Sightings were made even without binoculars according to witnesses. The event took place amidst preparations for an address by Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah one week after Shukr was killed in Beirut.
