Addressing the crowd all while delivering a loud proclamation to the country and the world on the venue of The 12th Defense Expo in Gujarat’s Gandhinagar on Thursday(20 October, 2022), Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commented that by 2025 India plans to grow the Defense Industry to 22 Billion USD and an increased turnover of 5Billion USD in defense.

The Minister added that the target of 5Bn implies the Indian Government’s vision to focus on export oriented manufacturing, inviting private as well as foreign powerhouses Singh expressed the need for non government entities’ support in order to facilitate such large scale expansion and sustenance. He also invited US defence and arms companies, encouraging them to set up industries and manufacturing units in the country, hoping for technological collaboration and establishing a “global supply chain free from vulnerabilities and uncertainties”.

Singh’s addressal was a part of the ‘New Frontiers in US-India Defence Cooperation: Next Generation Technology, Innovation & Make in India’ seminar co-organized by

US-India Business Council and Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers at Mahatma Mandir.

Singh remarked, “The Indian defence industry is the sunrise sector of the future”. He implied the major intention behind the grand objective is primarily  the fulfillment of the requirement of the Indian Armed Forces and the domestic defence sector’s needs and it’s overall development. However along with it India also aims to ”create long-term linkages to the global supply chains of the foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers  to meet global demands”, in future creating a global chain that provides access to multiple and advanced defence equipment and materials for India and it’s allies.

With surplus foreign capital and domestic private investment along with required govt. assistance, India could very well be taking new and large strides to transition from a large importer of foreign defence arms to a large producer and supplier.
