On Friday in an educational institution in Kolkata devoted to medical studies, a disturbing incident took place as family members asserted that the physician had faced sexual harassment before she passed away leading to extreme fury due to “unusual” demise of a female postgraduate in her second year.

In the fourth floor seminar hall of the college emergency building, a female’s body was found on Friday, August 9 at 11:30 AM. The night before she passed away, August 8, she had been given night duty.  Dr. Sanjay Vashisth, medical superintendent of R.G. Kar Medical College, stated, “A post-mortem by video will be conducted and police have been informed.” A forensic team, State Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam, and Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal paid  visit to the hospital on Friday. The incident has caused fear among students and medical professionals. Post-graduate trainees are questioning the safety and security in the Institution.

In response to the events of the day , Narayan Swaroop Nigam, the state health secretary announced that a police investigation is underway.
