A 17-year-old Dalit girl was found hanging at her house in Bareilly district on Sunday, two years after she was allegedly kidnapped and tortured.
In the first investigation, it was confirmed that the victim had an argument with her mother over family affairs on Saturday evening. Enraged, the girl went up to her room and locked herself in the house.
On Sunday morning, after the teen didn’t unlocked the door despite several knocks, the family reported it to the neighbors who called the police. The door was broken down and the victim’s was found hanging. However, the motive of her hanging has not been found.
A high-ranking police official said, “After receiving a tip, the police team rushed to the scene and recovered the body. The body was sent for an autopsy, which resulted in death by hanging.
The case started with the fact that the girl disappeared in May 2021 after leaving her house for her work. When she did not return, her family discovered that she was having an affair with a young man from another area. His brother filed an FIR against the boy and the police found his phone and eventually they found out that the girl has been kidnapped and have been asulted , after the girl was rescued, she named all the accused and on the basis of her statement all of them were arrested. There were six accused and all of them were arrested, the main accused is still in prison while the rest have been released on bail.
An FIR was lodged against the youth and others on charges of kidnapping and provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and the SC/ST Act.
