Saturday, April 11, 2022 saw Korea’s world no. 4 An Seyoung compete against two time Olympic medalist and current world  no. 7 P.V. Sindhu, to qualify for the finals in the Korea Open Super 500 2022. The match ended in Seyoung’s victory over Sindhu with the final scores being 21-14 and 21-17.

The competition as later described by critics, experts and fans alike could be summed up as ”back to back yet one sided”. The 20  year old Korean An Seyoung created an early 6-1 lead right out of the gate, courtesy of her excellent retrieving skills. The 48 minutes match saw numerous moments where the 25 year old Sindhu tried to make a comeback but  was outperformed in multiple aspects by the younger Seyoung be it the agility, stamina, coordination, speed, technique or even strategy. The Korean world no. 4 showed superior gameplay and ‘outperformed’ her opponent for most of the match, leading to her victory.

The loss made it Sindhu’s 4th singles loss to Seyoung on the global stage, with her Korean title campaign coming to an end while Seyoung now qualifies for the singles finals of the Korea Open.
