Army helicopters open fired at a school in Myanmar, claiming rebels were using the building to attack its forces, resulted in killing 6 children and wounded 17 more, on 19th September.

The incident occurred in the village of Let Yet Kone in the central Sagaing region. The teachers of the school were trying the take the children to a safe place but the shooting continued for an hour, the school administrator said. The government forces arranged for a surprise inspection after being informed that members of the People’s Defense Force and allies from the Kachin Independence Army had taken shelter in the school and nearby monastery, source reported. Although the government acknowledged injuries but stated that the PDF and KIA used villager men as human shields but did not mention anything about children.

Violence has been prevailing in Myanmar and civilian casualties often takes place, however the number of youngsters killed in this attack is considered to be the highest.
