After submitting the nomination papers on Sunday, Dilip Tirkey was nominated in Hockey India as President. He was nominated on behalf of Hockey Association of Odissa, according to source. In an interview he revealed his joyous feelings by stating that ‘ Hockey gave me many things, now it’s time to pay back to Indian Hockey’. He is very confident as he said, ‘the entire Northeast team is with me’. Being a member of Indian team he won gold and silver in the Bangkok and Busan Asian games.
Ajay Nayak, electoral officer of Bihar Government, was appointed for the Hockey Indian election which was schedules to be on October 1st and the last date for filling the papers was on Sunday. The 44-year old Tirkey was elected for the Rajya Sabha member and also held the post for the chairman of Odissa Tourism Developement Corporation.
He holds the 15 year old international record with 412 caps. He also won two gold medals in 2003 Asia cup, 2007 in Chennai and bronze in1999. Tirkey also shared a post in the micro- blogging app Koo.
