On Tuesday(November 22, 2022) local time 10:12 pm(GMT 03:12, Wednesday) the police department in Virginia’s Chesapeake were informed that the night shift manager of their city’s local Walmart had open fired and killed 6 of his staff present and injured another 6 of the people present in the vicinity and proceeded to shoot himself to death, for reasons yet to be revealed.
Receiving the horrific news of what is now the second case of mass shooting just days after the mass shooting in a LGBTQ nightclub in America’s Colorado, the police immediately arrived on the scene–and shortly after entered the building and took control of the situation, escorting the victims and injured civilians out of the building.
The killer Andre Bing(31) was the night shift team leader at the said Walmart outlet and had been employed there since 2010. The surviving employees present on site described the event as Bing suddenly entering the staff room and proceeding to shoot everyone. His colleagues later shared that Bing the manager had previously exhibited paranoid behaviour, and had expressed concerns that the government was monitoring him.
The following day, Wednesday, Police Chief Mark Solesky addressed a news conference stating that the investigation is being carried out with assistance from the FBI. The victims were later identified as Lorenzo Gamble, Brian Pendleton, Kellie Pyle, Randall Blevins and Tyneka Johnson and a 16-year-old boy whose name wasn’t mentioned publicly due to him being a minor.
The US President Joe Biden addressed the horrific incident, describing the event as “another horrific and senseless act of violence”.
“I signed the most significant gun reform in a generation, but that is not nearly enough. We must take greater action,” he said.
