The 29th Kolkata International Film Festival will start on December 5 this year.
It appears that the festival is indeed planning to pay tribute to the centenary birth year of filmmaker Mrinal Sen and actor Dev Anand. The initial meeting took place in June under the chairmanship of Raj Chakraborty, and another meeting is scheduled for the first week of July.
The festival’s website has opened for film submissions, with a submission deadline of August 31. According to sources, the aim is to bring back the festival’s pre-pandemic grandeur. Efforts are being made to invite guests and delegates from across the country and around the world.
In the previous year, the Kolkata International Film Festival took place from December 15 to December 22. It showcased a total of 183 films from 42 countries, including 52 short films and documentaries. The event was attended by notable dignitaries such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Jaya Bachchan, Rani Mukerji, Mahesh Bhatt, and others.
