Fans all around the world have been eager to find out which team has perfected the aerodynamic regulations for the new era and be on the forefront of the grid. The pre season testing in Bahrain and Barcelona did give us a bleak idea of who is going to be at the forefront. Porpoising was the biggest issue over both the testing weekends which sent teams into a frenzy to come up with the solution to deal with this problem .Both Mercedes and Ferrari showed their new radical sidepod design for this new era of Formula 1 Performance wise it was McLaren and Ferrari who were the most promising but it was the latter who clearly had an advantage over the rest of the field.
The first race of the season in Bahrain was filled with excitement as it was the return of Ferrari to the very top of Formula 1 as they posted phenomenal times on the qualifying sheet. It was Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc who edged out the defending world champion Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to the top of the grid. The first race of the season had another great story in the return of Kevin Magnussen, who posted his car on the 7th place on the grid. Another thing clear from the qualifying was the lack of pace from the Mercedes powered cars. The race was spectacular on its own as it saw both the Red Bulls and Ferraris battling each other on track. It’s saw a multiple lap battle between Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. It it was all great for Red Bull until the last three laps which saw both of their cars retire due to fuel pump issues which brought over a shadow of doubt over the reliability of their engines. On the flip side it was 1-2 finish of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz which gave Ferrari their first win in over two seasons. Mercedes were able to capitalize on the misfortunes of Red Bull leading to a 3rd place podium finish for their 7 time world champion Lewis Hamilton. Another big story was the fifth place finish Kevin Magnussen for Haas, who see their return to the top of the midfield in almost two years.
For the second round in Jeddah, which is the newest track on the calendar making its debut last year, Ferrari we’re looking to continue their momentum from Bahrain while Red Bull were eyeing a chance at redemption. Drivers got to work getting familiar with the new layout of Jeddah and it’s high speed corners. Qualifying was nothing short a nightmare for the Mercedes powered cars , which saw Lewis Hamilton getting knocked out in the first half of qualifying since Brazil 2017. On the other hand it was clash of Titans between Red Bull and Ferrari for the top spot of starting grid in Jeddah, to a surprise of many it was Red Bull’s Sergio Perez who claimed the first pole position of his career . On race day fans were again greeted with an intense multiple lap battle between Leclerc and Verstappen. The race was a success for Red Bull as it was their first win of the season, Ferrari snagged 2nd and 3rd to maintain their lead in the drivers and the constructors championship. For Mercedes it was a painful weekend as they could only manage to get 5th and 10th finishes in the race.
