Indian discus thrower Kalampreet Kaur, who rose to stardom for her never-seen-before performance at Tokyo Games, has now been banned for three years due to usage of steroids by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on Wednesday. Traces of prohibited substance stanozolol is found in her blood, as per AIU, and her ban will be effective from March 29, 2022.

Kalampreet received a provisional suspension in May after the results of her blood sample collected by AIU from Patiala on 7th March tested positive for steroids. Stanozolol is classified in the category of anabolic steroid and comes in the list of banned substances of World Athletics.

“The AIU has banned Kalampreet Kaur of India for 3 years for the presence/use of a prohibited substance (stanozolol), starting from 29 March 2022. DQ results from 7 March 2022.” AIU said in a statement.

Traces of stanozolol was found in one of the four supplements the 26-year-old had tested in a private laboratory. It was a protein supplement which also got tested in the National Dope Testing Laboratory, New Delhi, who also reported presence of the same substance in it.

Kamalpreet said that she used the supplement “five days per week, on training days, from around 10-15 February 2022 until and including 2 days before the doping control.” However there was no explanation about how she got that supplement from her side.

Kamalpreet admitted to the allegations against her and agreed to the proposed sanction within 20 days of receiving  the notice from AIU. Her ban was reduced from four to three years. And all her records on and since March 7, 2022 will stand null and void.
