Although the billionaire creator of Microsoft earlier stated that he was “not a huge beer drinker,” Bill Gates has purchased a 3.76 percent interest in Dutch beverage giant Heineken Holding NV. According to the documentation submitted to the Netherlands Financial Markets Authority (AFM), the shares were bought on February 17. A controlling interest in the brewer Heineken NV is held by Heineken Holding.
Gates bought the shares on the same day that Fomento Economico Mexicano SAB (Femsa) announced the start of a 3.7 billion stock and equity-linked sale for a portion of its Heineken assets.
Femsa sold all 18 million of its shares in Heineken Holding, according to a separate filing, also dated February 17. At the time of the declaration, Gates had acquired 10.8 million shares for 883 million euros ($939.87 million).
