The government has declared to implement National Education Policy(NEP) 2020 in Jammu and kashmir from the 2022-23 session, for which, the state has paced boldly in the process of implementing the policy that will provide its youth with a bright future which would in turn lead it out from its muddled past.
For all the higher institutions in Union Territory, a calender has seen approved and are directed to strictly follow the mentioned timelines for the completion of the graduate and post-graduate courses. Moreover, 16 colleges are alloted in the state for skill development programme options along with undergraduate courses. The state will introduce a national pattern of curriculum after other states and Union Territories with the implementation of NEP. A huge range of skill based programmes under the NEP are included that will empower the youth of Jammu and Kashmir which will inturn enrich the unique talent and capabilities of students. Further NEP affirms at least 50% of students will have the limelight of a wide range of skill oriented courses by the year 2025. Moreover, it states vocational education is in alignment with Sustainable Development Goal. This will help the learners to understand the full potential of India’s demographic dividend.
One of the significant reason behind small scale of students opting for vocational education is since it was focused more on 11th and 12th standard students or dropouts of 8th grade and onwards, NEP stated.
