Legendary American rock and roll star, Tina Turner passed away on Wednesday in her home at Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland due to intestinal cancer diagnosed in 2016.
Tina Turner was one of the most successful artist of all times. She left a legacy full of pioneering moments as a first Afro-american rock and roll artist in 1960s and 70s and later the latter became a massive pop success in the 80s.
Tina got her first launch through a musical partnership with her former husband Ike Turner. The thriving couple gave the world many hits like, ‘River Deep, Mountain High’, ‘Proud Mary’, etc. as a cover of the band Creedence Clearwater Revival’s song. Turner walked out from her relationship with Ike, both personally and professionally, as he used to abuse Tina.
After breaking up with her husband, Tina reinvented herself as a pop singer of the 80s with her song ‘What’s Love Got to Do with It’ standing out as an anthem of the decade. She was the face and on-stage persona of the foundational role of Afro-american women in the rock and roll genre.
Even her peers held her in high esteem: Her high kicks and the vigour she displayed throughout her live performances served as inspiration for Mick Jagger, the vocalist of the British band The Rolling Stones, who has acknowledged this on numerous times.
She had been ill recently; she received a diagnosis of intestinal cancer in 2016 and underwent kidney transplantation in 2017. She passed away in her residence in Kusnacht, a Swiss town close to Zurich.
