With the Government ‘s  plan to set up the HECI already in the works and the required bill to be introduced in the coming winter session of the parliament, this report can be said to be another positive development.

It has been noted that a special committee is to be formed to come up with the framework for the University Grants Commission and All India Council of Technical Education to work together as a single regulatory body for the yet to be formed Higher Education Commission of India. The committee, helmed by UGC chairperson Prof M Jagadesh Kumar, will seek to find common ground where the two already established entities can work together to frame regulations and policies needed as per the future developments. Other committee members include the Vice-Chairpersons of The UGC and The AICTE,  The UGC secretary and The AICTE member-secretary

“The development of a joint working strategy is in many ways the harbinger of the proposed Higher Education Commission of India (HECI). After all, regulations on higher education affect students pursuing general as well as technical degrees or courses,” Prof Kumar was reported saying to The Indian Express.
