Dating back to Tipu Sultan’s reign from 1782 to 1799, the Sukhela was discovered within the ruler’s private quarters. It was presented to Major General David Baird by the East India Company’s Army as a token of appreciation for his bravery during the assault that marked the end of Tipu Sultan’s rule.
