In Assam, there has been a widespread crackdown on underage weddings, with over 2,000 people being detained, according to the authorities. According to yesterday’s announcement by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the crackdown started early in the morning and will last for a few days.
“We have started a campaign against child marriage in Assam. We have detained 2,044 people so far. We have begun a crackdown against this threat on directives from Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma “GP Singh, a senior member of the Assam Police, stated.

“All of the district police chiefs were instructed to contact the local village defence groups and influential people in each community. In several regions of the state, reports of child marriage have surfaced “Added he.
The district police chiefs were reportedly instructed to look into complaints of child marriages that had been registered in the state over the previous three years, according to the police. After a comprehensive investigation and using the data gathered, it was discovered that over 4,000 cases had been filed in the previous two days.

“4,074 child marriage cases were reported in Assam over the past two days. We have 2044 persons in custody after filing complaints in various districts “Singh stated.
The Prohibition of Child Marriage Act is currently being violated, and arrests across the state have resulted in more than 1800 people being taken into custody.
