Despite losing the second Test by 43 runs and falling behind 2-0 in the five-Test series against Australia at Lord’s on Sunday, England captain Ben Stokes declared that his team’s strategy for the Ashes would not alter.

Brendon McCullum, the England coach, and Stokes, who put up a magnificent batting performance in his team’s unsuccessful run chase, have come under fire for continuing their reckless, no-holds-barred strategy against the World Test champion, which now needs just a draw to retain the Ashes urn.

After tallying a gallant 155, Stokes informed reporters, “All we’re worried about is winning the series 3-2.

In light of the daring method England has been playing the game since McCullum took over in May 2022, he indicated that its precarious status really works in its favour.

“It’s very exciting to know that the way in which we are playing our cricket actually couldn’t be more perfect for the situation we find ourselves in — we have to win these three games to get this urn back,” he said.

“We are a group that is willing to challenge the status quo and do things differently. Thus, these upcoming three games represent an even bigger opportunity for us than we have ever had.

The team’s strategy, according to Stokes, is to give each player the impression that they are free to play their own game and then to do their best to carry it through.

“What we’ve accomplished in the dressing room is to make everyone’s intentions clear. You have the support of the entire locker room to go out there with an idea you think is the best approach to the game at that particular moment, he said.

I only say to the guys, “Let’s try to improve our execution.”

He asserted that England would maintain its ethos despite having previously stated that the team would not be “results-driven”.

Every athlete will continue to have the best opportunity to be absolutely certain in their minds about what they want to achieve, he promised.
