Darjeeling Himalayan Railway( DHR) — a world heritage point recognised by Unesco is drawing sightseers in huge numbers who are boarding the toy trains to enjoy the scenic beauty between Darjeeling and Ghoom.

In May 2023, the hill road recorded the topmost number of footfall in a month in the history of the DHR that was set up in 1881. Last month, 30,303 passengers boarded the toy train, the topmost ever number in one month since the inception of the DHR.” Such a rush helped us earn Rs3.57 crore in the month, ” said Priyanshu, the DHR director. According to the sources, earlier the topmost number of footfalls was 26909 in a month from which they had earned nearly3.19 crore.

Sources also said that the open- air zoological demesne in north Bengal on the outskirts of Siliguri was drawing a huge number of guests these days. “ We have earned Rs5.65 crore in the current fiscal( 2022- 23). This is a massive increase in comparison to the earnings of the former financial time( 2021- 22) when the earning was around Rs1.76 crore, ” said Rahuldev Mukherjee, the assistant director of the demesne.

From April last time to March this time, the demesne has recorded a footfall of2.87 lakh, which is also a record itself as compared to earlier times. “ Despite the scorching heat now, hundred of guests are visiting the demesne and especially on weekends the demesne are hell crowded, ” further added Rahuldev Mukherjee.
