The father of Darshan Solanki, a first year IIT- Bombay student who committed suicide on February 12, wrote a letter on Wednesday to the CM of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, stating the harassment faced by him from the police in filing an FIR of his son’s death case.

On February 12, the 18-year-old boy from Ahmedabad had jumped from the seventh floor of the hostel building. Furthermore, his family claimed that he used to face discrimination in the institution since he belong to SC community. In the letter to the CM, the student’s father expressed how disheartened the family was by seeing the attitude of the police and also claimed that the police refused to register the FIR for almost 2 weeks.

On Monday, a suicide note was found in the room of the student and it had a name of Solanki’s classmates. Moreover, Solanki’s answer sheets and some of his old notebooks had been taken by the investigating team to check the authenticity of the handwriting in the suicide note, according to the source.
