Former world champions Elavenil Valarivan, Ramita and Shreya Aggarwal had reached the gold medal tier after two qualification rounds on Monday. They finally outplayed Denmark with a score of 17-5 in the gold medal contest of the 10m air rifle team women’s event to win the Gold at the ISSF World Cup in Baku, Azerbaijan.
India opened their account at the ongoing ISSF World Cup with the trio, claiming the gold medal in the 10m air rifle team women competition. The runner up Denmark was represented by Anna Nielsen, Emma Koch and Rikke Maeng Ibsen. Meanwhile Poland won bronze in the ongoing event.
The Indian trio topped the first qualification stage, across 90 shots, the squad redeemed with a combined score of 944.4. In the second stage, the team was left behind by Denmark to the second position, making it to the title round. On the contrary, in the men’s air rifle team competition, the Indian troika of Rudrankksh Patil, Paarth Makhija and Dhanush Srikanth went down with a score of 10-16 to fall short in their bronze medal match against Croatia.The 12-member Indian rifle squad now finds itself at the fifth spot in the medals tally with Serbia leading the field with two golds and a total of four medals.
