Dinesh Karthik was part of the 2019 WC squad where he was picked as a back up option for MS Dhoni. The man who picked him in the squad was the ex chief selector of the Indian national cricket team, MSK Prasad.
Karthik had a phenomenal IPL season just recently and that led the selection committee and the team management to consider him once again in the international scheme of things.
Karthik is back in the Indian team setup ahead of the India V South Africa T20I series. All eyes are locked on the 37 year old cricketer who’s had a patchy carrier and has now made a comeback after a long absence from the international world of cricket.
In fact he seems to have bigger ambitions of helping the Indian team lift the upcoming 2022 T20 WC.
MSK Prasad was mightily impressed with Dinesh Karthik’s performance in certain situations. Adding onto the heaps of praises, Prasad said, “I have not really seen Dinesh Karthik in this state of mind in the last one and half decade”. The former selector felt that his selection was inevitable and now that he’s here he’ll have his opportunities to leave an impact. Acknowledging the lack of other options he stated that the selectors would have felt to him DK one last try especially considering the splendid form he exhibited in the IPL.
Prasad was of the opinion that the team management needs to figure out its best batting order soon and go with that in the World Cup. “We need to set our batting order. Even in the last T20 World Cup, we were found a little wanting in that front”, Prasad said.
