In the wakening of two events of separate blasts regarding illegal firecracker units in Bengal this month, the state government has decided to set up a green firework clusters in zones that have been identified as hubs of illegal firework-manufacturing units.
The Chief Minister of the state Smt Mamata Banerjee on Monday set up a committee that is headed by Chief Secretary. The committee have also suggested two months to convert illegal firecracker-making units to legal green cracker units by ensuring the welfare of the people so that who own and work here do not face sudden unemployment and blasting coincidence.
A blast at the illegal firecracker unit in East Midnapore’s Egra on May resulted in the death of 16 workers and injured 11. Another such event took place in Budge Budge on Sunday, which killed three. “We should work for the government to promote green fireworks clusters that would put a premium on safe practices” state Urban Development Minister, Firhad Hakim .
All illegal units have been ordered to be sealed, and the state MSME department will hold back the units to set up base in these clusters once they are set up.” The decision taken will help to bring the entire industry under a legal umbrella while ensuring that livelihoods are not lost” says a senior government official explaining the rationality behind Monday’s decision.
