On May 25, 2022 (Wednesday), a bolero car carrying 6 people went out of control and overturned into a ditch near Koti Guard in Uttarakhand’s Tehri Garwal, resulting in the death of all six onboard.
According to sources, while driving by Koti Guard on route to Gangotri the gas tank in the car exploded and caught fire, causing the car to go out of control. The beserk car then fell into a nearby ditch alongside the road. The driver of the car who was also one of the deceased, was assumed to be a local resident of Uttarakhand. The other five people who were said to be pilgrims, were also killed when the vehicle overturned on the spot in the tragic accident or are thought to have burned to death when the car caught fire.
The exact scene of the incident was first identified by the ANI that reported, “….The scene of the tragic incident was a deep ditch on Gangotri Highway near Kandi Saud tehsil on National Highway 94 on its way to Uttarkashi.”
After initial investigations and checking background and travel agency records the five pilgrims were finally identified. . A family of three from New Goriya, Nilesh Bhuiyan (23) was with his father Madan Mohan Bhuiyan (61) and mother Jhuma Bhuiyan (59). The other two have been identified as Pradeep Das(55), and Devmalya Debnath(43) both from Naihati. The driver of the dead vehicle has also been successfully identified as Ashish Prem, a local resident of North Kashi.
Arriving at the spot, Revenue Inspector Bijendra Ramola has been reported to have commented that everyone was burnt to death when the car caught fire.
Fellow travelers traveling with the deceased group, were traveling in other vehicles a little further. They came to know of the matter while trying to contact a phone found at the spot, thought to belong to one of the tourists. One of the tourists later informed that all of them were fellow members of the Mounting Club of Kolkata.
