On June 27, a total of 11 IITs featured in the list of the 20th edition of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) World University Rankings . The list includes Bombay, Delhi, Kharagpur, Kanpur, Madras, Guwahati, Roorkee, Indore, BHU, Hyderabad and Bhubaneswar .
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay ranked 149 from its previous ranking of 172 in the list a great achievement for Indians as after 8 long years an Indian institute ranked in the World University ranking . Following by IIT Delhi at 197 from 174th rank in 2023 , IIT Kharagpur at 271 came third whereas last year, it was fifth , IIT Madras at 285th rank , IIT Guwahati is at 364th rank, an improvement of 20 ranks from last year whereas IIT Roorkee is still at 369 ,IIT Kanpur is at 278th rank but unfortunately IIT Madras fell from the 250th rank to the 285th rank this year but secured the top position in this year’s domestic NIRF overall ranking . IIT Indore slipped to 454th rank this year , IIT BHU’s rank improved by nearly 80 ranks,this year it secured 571st rank. On the other hand, IIT Hyderabad records a fall of nearly 100 ranks. IIT Bhubaneswar reached 731 to 740 rank band this year.
And therefore out of the 11 IITs featured in the list, only four saw an improvement, one remained constant and the remaining six saw a fall.
