In the most recent happenings in World Cup cricket, the Sri Lankan side faced off against the United Arab Emirates in an engaging encounter which the former ultimately won by 79 runs.

While Sri Lanka’s victory was the more anticipated outcome, there was one certain moment of the game wherein even the most experienced of experts could not help but doubt  an upset. The said moment was the 15th over of the game where 22 year old Chennai born Karthik Meiyappan unleashed a flurry that ended with him cinching in 3 wickets back to back, making it the first ever hatrick for the UAE side in Men’s T20I World Cup Cricket.

The first of the three fateful came against Bhanuka Rajapaksa who was first to depart, holing out to Kashif Daud at deep cover. The next wicket was Charith Asalanka who was caught behind the wickets by wicketkeeper Vritiya Aravind.  The final of the trio being The Lankan Captain Dasun Sanaka  who was clean bowled by Meiyappan,  getting him the first hat trick not only for him and his team but also the first in the entire tournament this year. Meiyappan ultimately ended his bowling spree with an impressive figure of 3-19 in 4 overs.

Sri Lanka then went on to end their innings with a final score of 152-8 and then the rest of the task in getting Sri Lanka to victory was done by the Lankan bowlers who managed to stop the competitors at 73 for all in the 17th over, registering a massive 79 runs win.

After this overwhelming victory Sri Lanka will be seen in action next against Netherland tomorrow(Thursday) October 20, 2022 at 09:30 AM IST. Also in action tomorrow, UAE will square off against Zimbabwe at 01:30 PM IST.
