A high alert in the districts of Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi and Kullu on Monday due to thunderstorm confirmed by India Meteorological Department, safety measures to be taken for the citizens.
With an immediate effect, CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu started a helpline numbers for the common people and asked them to not get outside of their houses for the next 24 hours. The hilly areas get worst affect by the monsoon mishap while Manali, Kullu, Kinnair and Chamba faces the most destructive impact, reported NDTV.
“I request all residents of the state to please stay home for the next 24 hours because very heavy rain is expected. We have arranged three helplines — 1100, 1070, 1077. .you can call these numbers in case of any emergency and I will also be available 24 hours,” CM said in a video message.
14 was found dead due to the calamity and the state government are looking out for the survivors stuck still. CM Sukhu has asked to compensate people for their losses. He also declared that repairing work of roads and highways had already begun after rescuing stranded people.
State education minister Rohit Thakur told news agency ANI, “We will review the situation so that the decision we take is for the safety of students. CM has constituted a committee and is taking minute-by-minute feedback on everything. Our Govt will take a decision that is best in such adverse situations.”
In another tweet, the Himachal Pradesh police wrote, “The Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for most districts of the state today, which means there is a “very high risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall”. So you avoid unnecessary travel. Stay away from rivers and landslide areas. Please follow the instructions issued by the local administration.”
