Looking at the endless glistering azure waters off Rushikonda Coast, professional scuba diver Subhash Chandra noway had an suggestion of what awaited him when he went for blackout on a clear day in 2019. From diving electronic wastes to recovering temple flower waste which are reclaimed into incense sticks, dhoop, seed paper, cleansers and natural colorings and also used to produce compost and seed balls from the organisation, Greenwaves Environmental results.
According to a report by Greenpeace, an estimated6.40 lakh tonnes of ghost gear enter the ocean every time, making up 10 of the plastic waste intheocean.The organisation has been recovering and upcycling marine waste, especially ghost gear in the beachfronts of Visakhapatnam and Goa which harms marine beasties.
In 2021, Greenwaves had initiated a marine waste recycling design in Visakhapatnam which was halted due to various reasons.
Indian Youth for Society( IYFS) has taken up a series of campaigns to spread awareness on terrain conservation and plastic pollution like ‘ Clear Coasts Campaign ’ held in collaboration with original communities, educational institutions and government bodies, wherein responsible waste operation practices were also stressed.
Along with camps in seminaries and plastic recycling design to promote sustainable results, the organisation has been promotingeco-friendly druthers
like cloth and jute bags, brand straws and rustic tooth skirmishes through its store Green enterprise at CBM conflation.
“ The recycling plant is at GVMC jilting yard at Kapuluppada. Every Saturday, it’s open for academe and council scholars when we demonstrate waste running practices, ” says Appala Reddy Yendreddi, author of India Youth for Society.
