After representing India at the Asian games since 2010, World rank 2 archer Deepika Kumari has failed to secure her position for the competition this time. She had lost two rounds among three round robin matches in the final leg even if she had already finished a lowly fifth in two phase eliminations before the round robin matches. The 27-years old archer finished with one point against Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet kaur.
Deepika had recorded four times ‘World Cup Final’ runner up and bronze medalist. Deepika ‘s trophy cabinet was full of World Cup medals. She won 11 gold medals, 12 silver medals and 7 bronze medals at World Championships. Last year she had the opportunity for the second time to earn World no 1 tag. Since 2012, after winning five World Cup medals in the Tokyo Olympics she could earn the World no 1 tag but the Korean rivals became her opponent and she missed the chance.
Deepika ‘s career started when she joined the Tata Archery academy. Before making a rank on international levels she won medals in several state and junior competitions. In 2012, by the government of India she was honoured by the Arjuna award and also awarded Padmashri for her contribution to sports, on 2015.
